Ribbon cutting held for broadband expansion in Blair County

A ribbon cutting was held Friday to celebrate completion of broadband expansion in rural parts of the county in the Williamsburg area.

Officials with Crows Nest Broadband said they received $330,000 from the Blair County Commissioners.

Company officials said that money, coupled with their own money, allowed for about a $1 million total investment in expanding broadband infrastructure in the county.

They said this gives residents a reliable high-speed alternative to Comcast.

Dwayne Zimmerman, owner and founder of Crows Nest Broadband, said, “We’re seeing the vast majority of our customers are cancelling their satellite, TV; they’re cancelling their home phone, and they’re doing everything over the internet; their TV, work from home, school from home, play from home, everything happens over the internet, and this is exactly what we enable people to do.”

In our region, Crows Nest Broadband currently serves parts of Blair, Bedford, Huntingdon, Cambria, & Centre Counties.
